Often referred to as the "sixth member" of the band, Coyle's collaboration with Oasis, particularly with Noel Gallagher, was instrumental in crafting the raw and energetic sound that defined their debut album, Definitely Maybe.

Coyle's career in the music industry began as a sound technician for several Manchester-based bands during the 1980s, including the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. His path crossed with Noel Gallagher's when both worked as roadies for the Inspiral Carpets in the late 1980s. This professional relationship blossomed into a close friendship, with Coyle and Gallagher collaborating on various musical projects, including writing and recording dance music together during this period.

When Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam's band, Oasis, he brought Coyle into the fold as their live sound engineer. Recognizing the band's on-stage prowess, Coyle sought to capture that same energy in the studio. In February 1994, he recorded the band at Sawmills Studio in Cornwall, positioning them close together in one room to emulate their live performance dynamics. This approach was pivotal in producing the band's debut album, Definitely Maybe, which became the fastest-selling debut album in British history at the time

Coyle's production style emphasized a raw and unpolished sound, aligning with the band's ethos and the Britpop movement of the era. His contributions extended beyond technical expertise; his deep understanding of the band's music and dynamics allowed him to capture the essence of their sound authentically.

After his tenure with Oasis, Coyle continued to work in the music industry, contributing to various projects as a producer and sound engineer. His early work with Oasis, however, remains his most notable contribution, leaving an indelible mark on the Britpop era and influencing countless artists and producers in the years that followed.

Mark Coyle's collaboration with Oasis exemplifies the critical role of behind-the-scenes contributors in the music industry. His ability to capture the band's live energy and translate it into a studio recording was instrumental in the success of Definitely Maybe, an album that continues to resonate with audiences decades after its release.
