"Songbird" is a single by Oasis, released on 3 February 2003. It was the fourth and final single from their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry (2002)
- Written and sung by Liam Gallagher — This was Liam’s first songwriting credit on an Oasis single (he had written a few album tracks before, but this marked a big moment).
- Short, sweet, and acoustic-driven: the studio version is only 2:08 long, making it one of Oasis’s shortest singles.
- It’s a gentle, romantic ballad with a simple, heartfelt charm — a big contrast to the band’s usual loud, anthemic rock.
- "Songbird" proved Liam could write a strong, commercial song and helped humanise his image — he described it as being about appreciating beautiful things.
- It remains a fan favourite and a staple in Liam’s solo live sets (often dedicated to his then-wife Nicole Appleton or performed with great emotion).
- Along with tracks like “Little by Little,” it showed Heathen Chemistry had real melodic depth beyond the rockers.
- Many fans see the single as the high point of Oasis’s early-2000s output and a nice bridge between the Britpop era and what came later.
