These demos were recorded on the island of Mustique in early 1996 when Noel Gallagher and producer Owen Morris used a digital eight‑track recorder, drum machine and keyboard to quickly lay down rough versions of new songs. The demos captured a spontaneous energy that later vanished in the over‑produced album; engineer Nick Brine said they “had an attitude and feel” and were used to set up the Abbey Road sessions. During the sessions Noel and Owen were forced to leave the Abbey Road control room after complaints about their playback disturbing other artists. Long considered mythical, these tapes resurfaced during the 2016 deluxe reissue of Be Here Now, offering raw glimpses of songs such as “Don’t Go Away” and “D’You Know What I Mean?” and underscoring what the album might have sounded like if the demos had been used as a blueprint.
