Oasis Bring the Be Here Now Tour Home to Manchester G-MEX

On 13 December 1997, Oasis began two sold-out nights at Manchester’s G-MEX Centre as the Be Here Now world tour returned to the band’s home city. After a year dominated by extraordinary sales, huge expectations and an increasingly elaborate live production, the concerts placed Oasis back in front of a Manchester crowd at full arena scale.

The following night was filmed and broadcast by MTV as Oasis: All Around the World Live. The set drew heavily from Be Here Now but retained the songs that had built the band’s reputation, capturing the oversized sound and presentation of their 1997 touring era.

The G-MEX performances remain an important visual record of Oasis at the end of a turbulent but commercially enormous year. They showed a band still capable of commanding its home city even as the initial excitement surrounding Be Here Now began to give way to a more complicated assessment of the album and its era.
